Auto defects spark multiple vehicle recalls

A few recent vehicle recalls may have an impact on some West Virginia residents. The vehicles recently determined to have auto defects include some manufactured by Bentley Motors Inc., BMW of North America and General Motors. Their model years range from 2007 to 2016.

Bentley is recalling particular Continental Flying Spurs from the model years of 2007 to 2009. These vehicles are considered dangerous because the glass in the sunroof might not be appropriately secured to the frame of the sunroof and therefore might detach while the vehicle is in motion. This can potentially lead to a crash.

BMW is also recalling certain BMW M5 sedans, M6 coupes, M6 convertibles and M6 Gran Coupes from the model year of 2015. These automobiles have driveshafts that might not have been welded adequately and thus can fracture. If they fail, the rear wheels will experience the loss of drive, and the car will also lose propulsion, which may lead to a crash. General Motors's Buick Verano automobiles from the model year of 2016 are also problematic since the engine's fuel line might contact the engine's surface, leading to a fuel leak and thus an increased risk of fire.

Consumers in West Virginia who are injured as a result of auto defects are entitled to pursue monetary damages through the civil court system. Liability has to be established to the court's satisfaction before claims for damages will be decided. A successfully fought suit might lead to a monetary award, which may help the victim to cover hospital bills and other auto defect-related losses.
