Auto defects spark recalls by Toyota, Ford, BMW

Vehicles manufactured by multiple companies have recently been recalled due to various defects. Toyota, Ford and BMW are issuing the recalls. If people in West Virginia are injured due to auto defects, it is within their rights to seek to hold the automobile makers accountable.

Toyota has recalled 340,000 hybrid Prius vehicles because their parking brakes are defective. According to officials, it is possible for the cable of the parking brake to disengage all of a sudden, therefore causing the brakes to quit working. If the vehicle is in a gear besides park, it might begin to roll away and even crash.

United States safety regulators are also investigating two of Ford's models: the 2010 Fusion and the 2011-2013 Edge SUV. They have issues similar to the ones that led to the recall of almost three million other Ford automobiles. In more than 640,000 automobiles, the warning light signifying that the door is ajar will not shut off on the Edge vehicles, and there have been reports of the doors flying open when the SUVs were moving.

BMW also has recalled over 4,000 SUVs because the front air bag's inflator on the driver's side may end up separating from a plate and thus shoot out debris such as metal. This can lead to death or injury. Whenever someone in West Virginia has been hurt due to auto defects, they may file a product liability claim against the manufacturer, seeking damages. A damage award in a successfully fought case may help to cover medical expenses and other losses.
