Target recalls Halloween-themed dangerous products

People in West Virginia who purchased their Halloween decorations at Target this year may be affected by a recent product recall. The discount retailer is recalling about 127,000 dangerous products that are Halloween themed. Specifically, the products under recall are LED gel clings.

The gel clings being recalled feature two button, non-replaceable cell batteries. The gel clings are designed to be used on a window and light up when they are pushed. However, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, these clings may separate and thus expose the LED/ button battery area and the decal area inside the product.

Because the product can separate, it poses a choking hazard to children. In addition, the button battery may be ingested by children. Multiple cling designs are affected by the recall, including a black cat, orange pumpkin, purple spider, pink skeleton and green skeleton.

When consumers in West Virginia purchase products, they naturally expect the products to be both functional and safe. Sometimes, however, these items end up becoming dangerous products due to manufacturing or design defects, and consumers end up being harmed. In these situations, the consumers who are hurt have the right to file product liability claims, pursuing the reimbursement of financial damages. Liability must be established to the court's satisfaction before claims for damages will be determined. A damage award may help to cover expenses such as medical bills and may also help to address pain and suffering as well as emotional distress caused by the use of a dangerous product.
