Candle lovers in West Virginia may be at risk in light of a current product recall. Yankee Candle Company recently recalled candles that may cut consumers’ hands. A total of 31,000 of these dangerous products are involved in the recall.
The problematic candles are a part of Yankee Candle Company’s Luminous Collection line. According to the company, the jar has the potential to crack when someone has lit the candle inside of it. Thus, it poses a cutting hazard.
So far, Yankee Candle Company has gotten 16 reports about a jar cracking. However, there have not been any injuries reported. The recall was announced in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Customers who have the dangerous candles have been asked to quit using these products and to contact the company to get a complete refund.
Product manufacturers are expected to produce items that are safe for the public to use. If a person in the state of West Virginia uses a product that is defective and ends up being harmed as a result, it is within his or her rights to file a product liability claim against the product manufacturer, seeking the reimbursement of damages sustained. A preponderance of the evidence is necessary to establish liability to the satisfaction of the civil court hearing the case, after which claims for financial damages will be determined. A successfully fought claim may result in a monetary damage award that may help to cover medical costs, the loss of wages and other expenses tied to the use of dangerous products causing injuries.
