Failure to diagnose pertussis leads to $4M malpractice award

A woman in another state claimed in 2016 that doctors did not correctly assess her baby's health condition. Their alleged failure to diagnose the baby's pertussis -- a mistake that can easily impact patients in West Virginia and elsewhere as well -- ultimately led to her death. After filing a medical malpractice claim against their medical practice, the woman recently received an award of $4 million for her child's death.

In the same manner, any individuals in West Virginia who have lost loved ones due to infections that developed in reportedly negligent nursing homes have the right to seek justice through the civil court system.

Children's cardigans recalled, said to be dangerous products

Consumers in West Virginia who have young children may be impacted by a recent recall of cardigan sweater sets, one of multiple products recently recalled. Certain cardigans made by Carter's are considered dangerous products due to their potential to cause young children to choke. More than 107,000 of these clothing items are affected by the recall.

More research being done on female traumatic brain injury

When people study or talk about those who have suffered injuries to the brain, they often think about male soldiers or players in the National Football League. Unfortunately, women have not been well represented in research on traumatic brain injury. However, the VA's brain bank is trying to change this -- a move that may have a positive impact on female brain injury victims in West Virginia and other parts of the United States.
