Traumatic Brain Injury Can Be Devastating

Most people in West Virginia and other parts of the United States do not lead daredevil lives as many athletes do. However, this does not mean they are not at risk of suffering traumatic brain injuries. A traumatic brain injury can still happen in the right situation, and unfortunately, it can have devastating consequences for the person who suffers it.

Injuries to the brain do not discriminate and may occur at any time and anywhere. In addition, they can happen to anybody. These types of injuries occur due to jolts, bumps, or blows to one’s head.

Brain injuries can create a brief alteration of one’s mental state, and a victim can even experience amnesia or unconsciousness for an extended time period. Brain injuries can be so catastrophic because the brain’s consistency is like that of gelatin. Therefore, when people suffer jolts or blows to their heads, their brains may forcibly slide back and forth, and this can stretch their brain cells, thus causing damage and creating chemical changes. It may also result in bleeding around or in the brain, which may result in such symptoms as struggling to remember things or concentrate, as well as dizziness, nausea, headaches, blurry vision, confusion, and drowsiness.

A traumatic brain injury can easily happen in a car accident or in a slip-and-fall accident in West Virginia or anywhere else. In these situations, the accident could have resulted from the negligence of another party. In such a case, the brain injury victim may opt to file a personal injury claim against the at-fault person, seeking damages. A successfully fought claim may result in a monetary damage award that might help with addressing medical bills and other injury-related losses.
