Surgical errors spark lawsuit against eye surgery center

A woman in another state recently claimed that an eye surgery center made her eye condition worse following surgery. She has therefore decided to file a medical malpractice lawsuit against the center. Patients in West Virginia who likewise suffer from surgical errors can seek justice through the civil court system.

In the recent out-of-state case, the plaintiff claimed that the eye surgery center she is suing performed a complex procedure involving cataract extraction as well as intraocular lens implantation in her right eye. However, following the procedure, the woman allegedly suffered inflammation and pain. In addition, her poor revision reportedly remained. The woman then underwent another procedure involving the removal of a lens fragment in her right eye.

According to the lawsuit, the eye surgery center did not fully take out the remaining lens fragment. In addition, the center did not recognize how serious her eye problems following the procedures were. As part of her lawsuit, the woman is seeking a jury trial as well as over $50,000 in damages.

Patients understandably trust doctors to exercise a reasonable degree of care when performing surgeries on them. Unfortunately, surgical errors can lead to undesired outcomes and end up causing more harm than benefits to the patient. Fortunately, patients who are negatively impacted by medical malpractice have the right to file lawsuits against the doctors who caused harm to them. An understanding of what facts need to be proved will most likely be critical for prevailing in these types of cases in West Virginia.
