Your Home Stove May Be Among Recent Defective Household Products

 | May 28, 2015 | Uncategorized

An oven is one of the most crucial and frequently used components of West Virginia residents’ kitchens. Some are electric, while others are gas. For residents who have a gas range, it may be time to take notice of a recent recall regarding gas ranges from Viking Range as defective household products that can cause injury.

Viking Range has recently issued a recall for over 60,000 of its gas ranges. These ranges were sold in a number of different finishes and colors, including white, black and stainless steel. The recall is due to a defect in the design that can cause the ovens to automatically turn on without assistance from the user.

So far, Viking Range has been informed of 75 separate incidents of the ovens coming on. Three of these incidents reported burns to individuals. Four of the incidents resulted in claims of property damage.

These ranges were sold from July 2007 to June 2014. Viking Range is urging consumers to stop use immediately and contact them for a free repair. A professional will come to the consumer’s home to make the repair.

West Virginia residents who are injured or killed as a result of defective household products are fully protected under consumer product liability law. Manufacturers are expected to only produce and distribute products that are safe for use by consumers, and these gas ranges were obviously not. Individuals may want to consider what legal options are available to them, such as product liability claims that may hold the responsible party — usually the manufacturer or distributor — liable for the harm caused and seek recovery of monetary damages, such as property repairs and medical expenses.
