Car Accident Can Lead to Spinal Cord Injury in West Virginia

Vehicles involved in an accident on the highway

While many people are preoccupied with getting to work on time or meeting a tight work deadline, people with injuries to the spinal cord may be focused on simply getting their shoes tied or struggling to use the restroom. A spinal cord injury, unfortunately, can force an independent person to have to depend on family members and friends on a regular basis for his or her basic needs. These injuries can occur as a result of a major car accident in West Virginia.

When a severe vehicle accident happens, a person may experience uncontrolled bleeding internally. In this case, a quick blood transfusion is essential for survival. However, a new development may provide a rapid fix for such injuries and possibly save many lives. Researchers have created and tested an artificial platelet that can be placed in one’s body and cause blood clots to form more quickly.

The platelets are nanoparticles that essentially can slow down bleeding, thus providing patients with more of the time they need to get appropriate medical attention. In addition, the platelets are fabricated from biodegradable material. As a result, they stay in the body for only a limited time period. Right now, since treatments for massive internal bleeding are lacking, these platelets are drawing attention in the medical field.

People in West Virginia may find hope in knowing that researchers are working hard to improve people’s chances of survival when serious car accidents leading to internal bleeding happen. However, an accident survivor may suffer spinal cord injury that prevents them from being able to live normally. If the accident was not the victim’s fault, the victim may wish to file a personal injury claim against the party deemed responsible for the accident, seeking financial damages that can help to address the financial losses caused by the crash.
