Anytime a company is negligent and forces an employee to work in unsafe conditions without the proper equipment the chances of a serious accident greatly increase. When this occurs in the Charleston area it’s very important for a person to understand his or her legal rights.
Two drilling companies, one with a history of work-related accidents and injuries, have agreed to settle an injury lawsuit with a man who was left paralyzed after suffering a spinal cord injury on the job site. Frontier Drilling and Antero Resources agreed to pay the injured man $12 million. According to a safety coordinator for Antero, there have been around 30 serious injuries on the job in just the three years since he joined the company.
The accident occurred when the man was working to repair one of the drills. According to the suit, Antero should have shut the job down to fix the drill, but the company instead ordered the now-paralyzed man to fix it. The man was eventually knocked into the rig, which caused his spinal cord to snap. He originally lost the use of all four limbs but has since regained the ability to walk with the use of crutches and braces.
Any workplace accident can have very serious consequences for those involved. In this case, the paralyzed man’s life has been altered forever. If anyone is hurt in a workplace accident he or she may be entitled to compensation for the resulting pain and suffering. Working with an experienced personal injury lawyer, as this man did, can help bring those responsible to justice.
